How does the Internet dating world monetize for business?

1- Data Mining – Collecting information similar to, let’s say, Google Analytics, dating websites can harvest statistics about populations. Due to how thorough the process is in creating an account, information can be dissected according to any demographic one could imagine—race, ethnicity, age, interest, hobby, et. Al. This information helps their business but is also a well sought after utility by other businesses. This process is called data mining.

2- Advertising – people who surf the Net on dating websites are in search of something—romance, love, socializing, connectivity, and the like. Advertisers and marketers are aware of this. Online dating communities serve as a great platform for catering to the user’s needs. Advertisements most frequently portrayed relationship related material like books and affiliate websites.

3- Monetization Widgets – Act similar to advertisement methods, such as pay-per-click models. A widget is “doodad” by definition, also known as a control, which is an element of a graphical user interface (GUI) that displays an information arrangement changeable by the user.

4- Premium Content – Web sites, which is especially but not exclusively common in the online dating community, give away some of their content for free and charge for premium content. This can be seen in a dating service’s allowing people to surf the site and look at potential partners, but considering all material is only relevant—such as the username—within the website, contact without signing up for the premium package becomes useless.
